  • Page 5: IMPORTANT SAFETY INFORMATION READ ALL INSTRUCTIONS BEFORE USING THE APPLIANCE Under certain conditions, hydrogen gas may be produced in a water heater that has not been used for two or more weeks. Hydrogen gas is explosive. If the hot water has not been used for two or more weeks, prevent the possibility of damage or injury by turning on all hot water faucets and allowing them to run for several minutes. Junked or abandoned dishwashers are dangerous even if they will sit for just a few days. Use care before handling electronic air cleaner filters, furnace filters, and paint brushes in your dishwasher. Do not allow children to play around the dishwasher when closing the door or adjusting the upper rack. Be sure that the electrical connection and wire size are adequate and in conformance with the National Electric Code. This appliance must have a 120V, 60Hz, AC-only, 15-ampere or 20-ampere, fused electrical supply. Use only recommended detergents and rinse agents for use in a dishwasher and keep them out of the reach of children.
  • Page 6: Getting started Features and appearance will vary throughout this manual Load dishwasher For best dishwashing results, follow the loading guidelines found in the Loading section. No pre-rinsing of normal food soil is required. Add detergent Add needed amount of detergent to the detergent dispenser. Use high quality detergents such as Cascade Platinum ActionPacs or Finish Quantum Automatic Dishwashing Detergent. Add rinse agent Add high quality rinse agents such as Cascade Platinum Power Dry Rinse Aid or Finish Jet-Dry Rinse Aid to the rinse agent dispenser. The use of rinse aid can further enhance the dishwasher's drying performance.
  • Page 7: Getting started Select Cycle Press the furthest pad on the left for the desired wash cycle. The cycle may be selected with the door in the open position. AutoSense automatically senses the soil level and adjusts the wash cycle accordingly. Heavy cycle is meant for heavily soiled dishes, cookware, pots, or pans with dried-on or baked-on food. Normal cycle is for daily, regular, or typical use to completely wash a full load of normally soiled dishes. Light/China cycle is for light to medium soiled dishes and is safe for china and crystal. Rinse cycle is for rinsing partial loads that will be washed later. Do not use detergent. 1-Hour Wash cycle quickly washes lightly soiled dishes. Dry Boost raises the final rinse temperature and extends the dry time. Custom cycle allows connection to WiFi and use of the SmartHQ App to assign a cycle.
  • Page 8: Getting started The light by the selected pad will be lit to indicate which option has been selected. Wash Temp is for normally soiled dishes, optimizing wash performance while conserving energy. This option increases the temperature to help clean heavily soiled dishes and will increase the cycle time by 20 to 50 minutes. This option raises the water temperature in the final rinse to sanitize your dishware but may increase cycle time by 60 minutes. Utilizing the sanitization option will modify the cycle to meet the requirements of Section 6 of the NSF 184 Standard for soil removal and sanitization efficacy. This option adds an extra pre-wash that generates steam to help deep clean dried-on soiled dishes. Turns on the option for faster drying, which may add up to 64 minutes to the cycle time. Selecting either the Upper or Lower Wash Zones will target dishwashing of just one rack, shortening the cycle time and conserving energy. Delays the start of a wash cycle up to 8 to 12 hours depending on the model. You can lock the controls to prevent selections from being made and to prevent cycle changes.
  • Page 9: Getting started Start dishwasher Press the Start pad and close the door within 4 seconds to start the cycle or begin the Delay Hours countdown. To interrupt or pause a dish cycle, slowly open the door. To cancel a wash cycle, press and hold the Start pad for 3 seconds and close the door. Cycle indicator lights and sounds Displayed at end of the cycle when Wash Temp Sani or Sanitize Temp has been selected and dishwasher has met requirements for sanitization. Displayed when a wash cycle is complete. The indicator light on the door front will change color to indicate the wash status. The dishwasher will emit a sound to indicate cycle completion, pad presses, and door ajar. To turn this option ON/OFF, press and hold the Cycle Select and Wash Temp Boost pads for 5 seconds. Connecting your dishwasher to SmartHQ will unlock enhanced capabilities and information for the Smart Assist feature.
  • Page 10: Dispensers Check the water temperature. The entering water should be at least 120°F (49°C) and not more than 150°F (66°C) for effective cleaning and to prevent dish damage. Use a rinse agent. High quality rinse agents are designed for great drying action and to protect against spots and film build-up on your dishes. Filling the rinse agent dispenser. The rinse agent dispenser holds 3.5 oz. (104 ml) of rinse agent, which will last approximately one month. Clean up any spilled rinse agent with a damp cloth to prevent foam from forming inside the dishwasher. Rinse aid setting. The amount of rinse agent released into the final wash can be adjusted based on the presence of water drops or hard water spots on dishes.
  • Page 11: Detergent dispenser is located in the center of the dishwasher door and has two compartments. The main wash compartment is inside the detergent dispenser, while the pre-wash compartment is on the lid. Use the pre-wash compartment only for extremely hard water or heavily soiled loads. The amount of detergent needed depends on water hardness, temperature, and food soil load. Detergents should be stored in a dry location and in their original container. Using the right amount of detergent ensures good wash performance without wasting detergent. High-quality detergent in tablet or packet form is recommended for effectiveness. Using too much detergent with soft or hot water may cause etching on glassware. Do not use hand dish detergent in an automatic dishwasher, as it causes sudsing and poor performance. Store dishwasher detergent separately from other cleaners to avoid confusion.
  • Page 12: Appliance communication is facilitated through WiFi Connect on some models. The dishwasher is equipped with a built-in WiFi communication card. It allows for remote monitoring, control, and notifications via a smartphone. Users can download the SmartHQ App using a QR code or by visiting the GE Appliances website. Instructions in the app guide users on how to connect their dishwasher. The device complies with Part 15 of the FCC Rules, which includes conditions regarding interference. The equipment has been tested to meet Class B digital device limits for residential installations. Users are advised on measures to correct harmful interference if it occurs. Changes or modifications not approved by the manufacturer may void the user's authority to operate the equipment. This document includes a revision number for reference.
  • Page 13: For best dishwashing results, follow these loading guidelines. The upper rack is primarily for glasses, cups, and saucers. Ensure that items do not protrude through the bottom of the rack or silverware basket where they will block the rotation of the middle spray arm. Other items such as pots, pans, and plates may be placed in the upper rack. Ensure small plastic items are secure so that they cannot fall on the heater at the bottom of the dishwasher. Ensure items in the upper rack do not interfere with the 3rd Rack when loading and unloading. The Bottle Jets system is the ideal location to position baby bottles, tall sports bottles, or other tall items with narrow openings. A loaded upper rack may be heavier than anticipated. To prevent minor injury or damage to the contents, do not raise or lower the upper rack after the rack is loaded. The upper rack allows 2 inches of adjustment up or down to accommodate large items.
  • Page 14: On some models, the upper rack may be adjusted to accommodate larger items. To adjust the upper rack, fully extend the upper rack and lift the front of the rack so that the rack roller wheels clear the end hooks on the front of the rails. Select the set of rollers on the side of the rack that provides the desired height. Failure to properly align the wheels onto the end hook and rails may result in the rack falling from the dishwasher. The fold down tines provide flexibility for extra-large and hard-to-fit items. The tine rows can be adjusted to a vertical or lay-down position. For best dishwashing results, follow these loading guidelines. Features and appearance of racks and silverware baskets may vary from your model.
  • Page 15: For best dishwashing results, follow these loading guidelines. The lower rack is best used for plates, saucers, and cookware items. Large items, such as broiler pans and baking racks, should be placed along the sides of the rack. Oversized glasses and mugs can be placed in the lower rack to maximize loading flexibility. Plates and similar items should be placed between the tines in a secure manner. Do not load large items in the lower rack where they may block the wash jets. The lower rack fold down tines can be adjusted to different angles or placed flat for flexibility. Ensure that items do not protrude through the bottom of the rack or silverware basket. Large plates, pots, or tall items should not hit the mid spray arm to avoid noise and poor wash performance. To change the direction of the fold down tines, remove and reattach them securely.
  • Page 16: Place settings for lower rack are available in 8 and 10 configurations. The document references models GD*650, GD*665, GD*670, and PD*715. The revision number of the document is 49-4000283 Rev 1.
  • Page 17: For best dishwashing results, follow these loading guidelines. Do not allow cutlery of different materials to touch each other in the 3rd rack. The 3rd rack is the recommended location for silverware and large utensils. Take care when loading, unloading, or transporting the silverware or utensil tray. The tray is only meant to be used with a GE Appliances 3rd rack dishwasher. Ensure that the 3rd rack is fully closed before shutting the dishwasher door. To remove the 3rd rack: lift the front of the rack so that the rack roller wheels clear the retaining hook. Replace the rack by aligning the rack roller wheels on the retaining hook and rack rails. Shutting the door with the rack partially extended could cause damage to the dishwasher. Using the tray for any other purpose could result in damage to the tray or anything interacting with it.
  • Page 18: Silverware/flatware is loaded using the silverware basket lids to ensure great wash performance. Place flatware in the removable silverware baskets, with sharp objects facing up to protect your hands. For best wash performance, place spoons with handles facing down and avoid nesting items. Distribute items evenly in the basket to ensure proper washing. The silverware baskets can also hold small items like measuring spoons and baby bottle nipples. Do not load large or tall utensils that may block the detergent dispenser or mid spray arm. Deep Clean Silverware Jets target stubborn food and help separate nested silverware. Using silverware basket lids is recommended for optimal cleaning. The Deep Clean Silverware Jets can also clean mixing bowls and other cookware. Refer to the 3rd Rack loading section for optional silverware loading.
  • Page 19: Care and cleaning To clean the control panel, use a lightly dampened cloth and then dry thoroughly. Before cleaning the front panel, make sure you know what type of panel you have. You can locate your model number on the left-hand tub wall just inside the door. For cleaning rust and tarnish, cleaners with oxalic acid will remove rust, tarnish, and small blemishes. Use only a liquid cleanser free of grit and rub in the direction of the brush lines with a damp soft sponge. Do not use appliance wax or polish on the stainless steel. To clean and de-odorize your dishwasher, use citric acid or a dishwasher cleaner. The stainless steel used to make the dishwasher tub and inner door provides the highest reliability available. These surface blemishes will not affect their function or durability.
  • Page 20: Care and cleaning Inspect and clean the filters periodically. This should be done every other month or more depending on usage. If there is a decrease in wash performance or dishes feel gritty, this is also an indication the filters need to be cleaned. To clean the Ultra-Fine Filter assembly, remove the bottom rack. Twist the Ultra-Fine Filter assembly counterclockwise and lift to remove for cleaning. Rinse filter with warm soapy water and use a sponge to carefully remove any stubborn particles. Scouring pads or brushes can scratch the filter surface but a soft brush or sponge may be needed to remove stubborn soils or calcium deposits caused by hard water. If your dishwasher is left in an unheated place during the winter, drain water from the water inlet line and water valve. An air gap protects your dishwasher against water backing up into it if a drain clogs. The air gap is easy to clean. Not all plumbing codes require air gaps, so you may not have one. Check the air gap any time your dishwasher isn't draining well.
  • Page 21: Troubleshooting tips are provided before calling for service. If the Smart Assist light is red, a potential problem has been detected with the machine. Use the SmartHQ App to identify and troubleshoot the potential problem. If the Smart Assist light is yellow, there is a notification available in the SmartHQ App. The start status indicator flashes if the door was opened or the cycle was interrupted. Press the Start pad once and close the door within 4 seconds to start the dishwasher. If the dishwasher beeps once every minute, it indicates that the door has been left open during operation. At the end of the cycle, the dishwasher will beep twice, which is normal. If dishes and flatware are not clean, the Ultra-Fine Filter or Fine Filter may be clogged. Ensure the inlet water temperature is correct and turn on the hot water faucet nearest the dishwasher before starting it.
  • Page 22: Troubleshooting tips before you call for service include identifying problems and possible causes. Spots and filming on glasses and flatware may be caused by extremely hard water, low inlet water temperature, overloading, or old detergent. Using high-quality rinse agents can help prevent spots and film build-up. Ensure the water temperature is at least 120°F (49°C) for optimal performance. Cloudiness on glassware can result from a combination of soft water and too much detergent, leading to permanent etching. A slight odor during the dry cycle is normal when the Dry Boost option is used for the first time. Suds in the tub may indicate the use of the wrong detergent; only high-quality automatic dishwasher detergents should be used. Detergent left in dispenser cups can occur if dishes block the detergent cup, requiring repositioning of items. Black or gray marks on dishes may be from aluminum utensils rubbing against them and can be removed with a mild abrasive cleaner.
  • Page 23: Troubleshooting Tips Dishes don’t dry Ensure inlet water temperature is at least 120°F. Select Boost Dry and use the Boost option. Select a higher cycle, such as Steam-Sani, Presoak-Sani, or Sanitize. Check the rinse agent dispenser and fill as required. Leave the door closed after the Clean light appears to allow the fan to run an additional 90 minutes. Control panel Make sure the door is firmly closed. Ensure the water valve is turned on. Remove the Ultra-Fine filter and lightly tap the piece under it if the flood float may be stuck. Stained tub interior Use high-quality rinse agents to help prevent hard water mineral deposits. Run the dishwasher with citric acid to remove mineral deposits. Dishwasher won’t run Replace the fuse or reset the circuit breaker. Ensure the power to the dishwasher is turned on. Unlock the control panel if it is locked. Contact for service if a leak is detected. Water standing in the bottom of the tub Clean the air gap. Refer to the Installation Instructions for proper drain line installation. If the drain is clogged, clean the air gap and check if the kitchen sink is draining well.
  • Page 24: Troubleshooting tips provide guidance before calling for service. Warm, moist air coming through the vent during drying is normal. Do not interrupt the cycle by opening the door during the wash cycle. Raise the water heater temperature to between 120°F and 150°F if the sanitized light does not illuminate during the final rinse. Normal operating sounds during the cycle require no action. Ensure dishes are properly loaded to avoid rattling during the wash cycle. To remove a white film on glassware, run a dishwasher cycle with citric acid. High quality rinse agents and detergents can help prevent film build-up. A vinegar rinse may also be used to eliminate film on dishware. Feeling air on your legs when standing in front of the dishwasher during a cycle is normal.
