Summary of Contents

  • Page 1: Integrated compactor use and care guide. For questions about features, operation/performance, parts, accessories or service, call. In Canada, for assistance, installation or service, call. Table of contents.
  • Page 2: Compactor safety Your safety and the safety of others are very important. We have provided many important safety messages in this manual and on your appliance. Always read and obey all safety messages. This is the safety alert symbol. This symbol alerts you to potential hazards that can kill or hurt you and others. All safety messages will follow the safety alert symbol and either the word “DANGER” or “WARNING.” These words mean: You can be killed or seriously injured if you don't immediately follow instructions. All safety messages will tell you what the potential hazard is, tell you how to reduce the chance of injury, and tell you what can happen if the instructions are not followed.
  • Page 3: Important safety instructions include reading all instructions before use and not compacting toxic or flammable materials. Close supervision is necessary when used by or near children, and the compactor should not be used as a toy. Do not take apart the compactor, as incorrect reassembly can cause electric shock. Handle loaded trash bags with care to avoid injury from sharp objects. The compactor is intended for household use only and should only be used as described in the manual. Installation instructions emphasize that the installer should leave the Use and Care Guide with the homeowner. Homeowners should keep the guide for future reference. Unpacking involves placing corner posts near the compactor and removing shipping materials from the drawer. Use two or more people to move and install the compactor to avoid injury. The power cord should be attached to the cord clip on the rear of the compactor.
  • Page 4: Remove the shipping base from the bottom of the compactor. Leave 6 (15.2 cm) of clearance space to the right side of the compactor to remove the compactor bags. Leave 23 (58.4 cm) of clearance in front of the compactor to fully open or remove the compactor drawer. Plug into a grounded 3 prong outlet. Do not remove ground prong. Do not use an adapter or extension cord. This compactor is for use on a single phase, 115 V, 60 Hz, AC only, 15 A or 20 A fused and properly grounded circuit. The compactor must be grounded while in use to reduce the risk of electric shock. The green (or green and yellow) conductor in the cord is the grounding wire. Grounded electrical outlet must be a minimum of 3 (7.6 cm) away from surrounding cabinets or nearby walls.
  • Page 5: Undercounter installation requires proper responsibility for correct installation. Gather the required tools and parts before starting installation. Adjust the leveling legs to ensure a 1/8 to 1/4 space between the compactor and the cabinet opening. Remove plastic plugs from the compactor cabinet top for models with a cabinet. Plug the compactor into a grounded 3 prong outlet. Determine the desired alignment of the compactor frame or drawer front with the cabinet front. Use retaining brackets to secure the compactor to the cabinet top as needed. Measure the height of the cabinet opening to ensure proper fit of the compactor. Adjust the rear wheels for different cabinet opening heights as necessary. Fasten the retaining brackets to the countertop with mounting screws.
  • Page 6: Cabinet-face mounting Installation Remove the rubber bumpers from the lower corners of the inside drawer front. Align the bottom of the custom panel with the bottom of the exterior drawer front. The bottom of the custom panel should not extend below the bottom rest tab. Secure the custom panel to the exterior drawer front using wood screws. Attach a quarter-round filler along the top inside edge of the drawer front. Check that the drawer opens freely. If the toe plate rubs against the floor, see “Adjusting the Toe Plate” for further instructions. Mark on each side of the toe plate the amount that rubs the floor covering. Use scissors or a utility knife to cut the toe plate along the marked line. The panel should be a minimum of 1/2 thick.
  • Page 7: Compactor use involves placing trash in the compactor and wrapping or covering wet or messy items. The compacting ram compresses the trash but does not reach the bottom of the drawer initially. Avoid compacting items that may develop offensive odors, such as raw meat or personal hygiene items. Load bottles or cans on their sides in the center of the drawer for effective compacting. The compactor drawer should be more than half full before it can begin to compress the load. The WHISPER QUIET Plus system helps maintain a quiet home environment during operation. To start the compactor, open the container, load trash, and press the foot-actuated START pedal. The Solid Cycle extends bag use by applying constant pressure to the trash, increasing bag capacity by up to 25 percent. Do not push items down into the compactor with hands or feet during operation. For best results, use the Solid Cycle for at least 30 minutes at a time.
  • Page 8: Using the air filter or freshener helps in odor removal. Set the air filter switch to ON for air movement. Only use bags designed for your compactor. Order replacement bags through your local dealer. The charcoal air filter works only when the key-knob is ON. The air freshener functions with or without the fan. Ensure the drawer side is securely locked before installing a new bag. Remove the bag when trash is compacted to the top of the drawer. Do not push items down into the compactor with hands or feet. Close the bag with the twist tie provided after removal.
  • Page 9: Compactor care Your new compactor is designed to give you many years of dependable service. This section will tell you how to clean and care for your compactor. It is recommended that you use either the charcoal air filter or the air freshener in the filter compartment. To order the correct replacement charcoal filters or air fresheners, call the toll-free number listed on the cover or in the “Assistance or Service” section. Before cleaning the compactor, turn the Key-Knob (or Key-Switch) to the OFF & LOCK position and remove it. Any services other than those outlined in this section should be performed by a designated service representative. Wash exterior surfaces (including stainless steel) with a clean sponge or soft cloth and a mild detergent in warm water. Do not use abrasive or harsh cleaners. Wipe up spills right away. Some foods can damage the finish if left on the compactor surface.
  • Page 10: Grasp the drawer on the sides and pull it out the rest of the way. You may want to wear gloves since there may be bits of glass on the ram cover. Wipe glass particles off of the ram cover with a cloth or paper towels. Vacuum the inside of the cabinet. Liquid spills or wet trash should be cleaned up by hand or using a vacuum cleaner designed to pick up liquids. If you will be away for more than a couple of days, remove the compactor bag. Try the solutions suggested here first in order to avoid the cost of an unnecessary service call. Is the drawer less than half-full? Drawer must be more than half full before trash is compacted. Is the ram all the way up? Drawer will open only when ram is fully raised. Is the power supply cord unplugged? Plug into a grounded 3 prong outlet. Is the Solid Cycle engaged? Drawer remains locked until you reset by lifting the foot pedal up.
